1 Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Eph 2:18; Eph 3:12 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulations produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character hope. James 1:12 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which was given to us. Phil 1:20 6 For when we were still without strength, in due time christ died for the ungodly. Rom 5:8, Rom 5:10; Rom 4:25; Rom 8:32 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps a good man someone would even dare to die. ♦8 But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Rom 8:32; 2 Cor 5:18 11 And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. Gal 4:9 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread through all men, because all sinned— Gen 2:17; Gen 3:6; Gen 3:19 13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law 1 John 3:4 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. Gen 5: 3-32 15 But the free gift is not like the offense, for if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. Is 53:11 16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgement which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. 17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the one, Jesus Christ.) ♦18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous. Phil 2:8 20 Moreover the law entered that the offence might abound. but where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 1 Tim 1:14 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 4
1 What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. James 2:21 3 For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Gen 15:6; Gal 3:6 4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. Rom 11:6 5 But to him who does not work be believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness. Rom 3:26; Eph 2:8-9 6 just as David also described the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:
7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered; 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.” Ps 31:1-2 9 Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also? for we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness. Rom 4:3 10 How then was it accounted? while he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised. 11 And he received the sign of uncircumcision, a seal of the righteousness of faith which he had while still circumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also. Gen 17:10-11 12 and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while still uncircumcised. John 8:37-40; John 8:56-58 13 For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. Gen 17:4-6; Gen 22:17 14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect. Gal 3:18 15 because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression. Rom 3:20 16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all Rom 3:24; Gal 3:22 17 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; 18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” Gen 15:5 19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (Since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb Heb 11:11 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief. but was strengthened in faith, giving Glory to God, Gen 21: 1-8 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. Gen 17:19; Gen 21:3 22 And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, 24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, Rom 3:26 25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification. Is 53:4-5
Romans 3
1 What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? 2 Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God. Rom 9:4; Deut 4:5-8 3 For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? 4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: Ps 116:11; Titus 1:2
“That You may be justified in Your words, Ps 51:4 And may overcome when You judge.” 5 But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unjust who inflicts wrath? (I speak as a man.) Rom 1:18 6 Certainly not! For then how will God judge the world? Gen 18:25 7 For if the truth of God has increased through my lie to His glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? 8 And why not say, “Let us do evil that good may come”?—as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say. Their condemnation is just. Rom 5:20 9 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. 10 As it is written:
“There is none righteous, no, not one; Ecc 7:20 11 There is none who understands; Ps 14:1-3 12 They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no not one.” 13 “Their throat is an open tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit”, Ps 5:9 “The poison of asps is under their lips”, Ps 140:3 14 “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.” Ps 10:7 15 “their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 Destruction and misery are in Their ways; 17 And the way of peace they have not known.” Is 59: 7-8 18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Ps 36:1 19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God Rom 2:2 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for,by the law is the knowledge of sin. Gal 2:16; Gal 3:21-25 21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and and the prophets, John 5:46; 1 Pet 10-11 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; Col 3:11 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Gal 3:22 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus Rom 4:2-5; Rom 5:1 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed. Heb 2:17 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Rom 4:5 27 Where is boasting then? it is excluded. By what law? of works? no, but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law Rom 3:20; Gal 2:16 29 Or is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also, 30 since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith, 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.
Romans 2
1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for whatever you judge in another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things. Rom 1:20; Rom 3:19 2 But we know that the judgement of God is according to truth against those who practice such things. 3 And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgement of God? 4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance. Rom 3:25; Rom 9:23; Eph 1:7; Eph 1:18 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgement of God, Deut 32:34; Prov 1:18 6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds” Ps 62:12 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who are self seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, 2 Thess 1:8 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also the Greek; 10 but glory, honor and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also the Greek; Rom 1:16 11 For there is no partiality with God. Deut 10:17; acts 10:34 12 For as many as have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law 13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified; 14 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excuse them) 16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel. Matt 25:31 17 Indeed you are called a Jew, and rest on the law, and make your boast in God, Mic 3:11; John 8:33 18 and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, 19 and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law. 21 You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? Matt 23:3 22 You, who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? Mal 3:8 23 You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? Rom 1:17; Rom 9:4 24 For “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you, as it is written. 25 For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the law; but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. Rom 4:19-12; Gal 5:3 26 Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirement of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as uncircumcision? 27 And will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the law, judge you who, even with your written code and circumcision, are a transgressor of the law? Matt 12:41 28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; 29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God. 2 Cor 3:6; Gal 3:7
Romans 1
Romans, Known as Paul’s greatest work, is placed first among his 13 epistles in the New Testament. While the four Gospels present to the words and work of jesus Christ, Romans explore the significance of His sacrificial death. Using a question and answer format, Paul records the most systematic presentation of of doctrine in the bible. Romans is more than a book of theology; it is also a book of practical exhortation. The Good News of Jesus Christ is more than facts to be believed; it is also a life to be lived—a life of righteousness befitting the person, “Justified freely by God’s grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (3:24). Although some manuscripts omit “In Rome” in 1:7, 15, the title Pros Romaious, “To the Romans,” hs been associated with the epistle almost from the beginning. 1. 1. Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God 2. which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, Acts. 26:6; Gal. 3:8 ♦3. concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, Matt 1:6; Matt 1:16; Luke 3:23, Luke 3:31 ♦4. and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Acts 9:20 5. Through him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name, Acts 6:7; Acts 9:15; Eph 3:8 6. among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ; 1 Cor 1:12 7. To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and Lord Jesus Christ. Num 6:25-26 8. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. Rom, 16:19; 1 Cor 1:4 9. For God is my witness whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, 1 Thess 3:10; 1Thess 5:17 10. making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you. 11. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established— 12. that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. 13. Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentils. 14. I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise. 1 Cor 9:22 15. So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel in Rome to you who are in Rome also. Rom 15:19-20 16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 1 Cor 1:18 17. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written “The just shall live by faith.” Rom 3:21-22; Hab 2:4 18. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness. 1 Thess 1:10; 1 Thess 2:16; 1 Thess 5:9 19. because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. Acts 14:17 20. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, Ps 19:1-6 21. because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Jer 2:5 22. Professing to be wise, they became fools, Jer 10:4; 1 Cor 1:18-25 23. and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man— and birds and four footed animals and creeping things. 1 Tim 1:17; 1 Tim 6:15-16 24. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 1 Cor 6:18 25. who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever, Amen. Is. 44:20; Jer. 10:14 26. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. for even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. Lev. 18:22 28. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; Rom 1: 24; Rom. 1:26 29. being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness, they are whisperers, 1 Cor. 6:9-10 30. backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31. undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32. who, knowing the righteous judgement of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. Rom 2:2; Rom. 6:21
Matthew 18
1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Luke. 9:46-48 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set im in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of Heaven. 4 “Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 “Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. Matt. 10:42 6 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believes in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depths of the sea. Mark. 9:42 7 “Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offenses comes! Luke. 17:11 8 “If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. Matt. 5:29-30 9 “And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you, it is better for you to enter life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire. 10 “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, For I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven. Heb. 1:14 11 “For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. 12 “what do you think? if a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? 13 “And if he should find it, assuredly I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. 14 “Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. 2 Pet. 3:9 15 “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained a brother. Lev. 19:17; James. 5:20 16 “But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 “And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector. Rom. 16:17; 1 Cor. 5:9 18 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Matt. 16:19 19 “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. John. 14:14; John. 16:24; John. 16:26 20 “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matt. 28:20 21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? up to seven times?” Luke. 23:34 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. Col. 3:12-13 23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 “And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25 “But was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made, Lev. 25: 39-41; 2 kin. 4:1 26 “The servant therefore fell down before him saying, ‘Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.’ 27 “Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. Matt. 9:36; Matt. 14:14; Matt. 15:32 28 “But the servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii’ and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe! 29 “So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and i will pay you all. v. 26 30 “And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31 “So when his fellow servants saw what he had done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32 “Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Luke. 7:41-50 33 ‘Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ 34 “And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.’ James. 2:13
Matthew 17
1 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves; Mark. 9:2-8 2 and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as the light. Matt. 16:28; Rev. 1:16 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with him. 4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” ♦5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed therm; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him! Matt. 3:17 6 and when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid, 2 Pet. 1:18 7 But Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.” Rev. 1:17 8 When they had lifted up their eyes; they saw no one but Jesus only. v.5 9 Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.” Matt. 28:5-6 10 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first? 11 Jesus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things. 12 “But I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.” Mal. 4: 5-6 13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist. Luke. 1:17; John. 1:21 14 And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. 16 “So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.” 17 Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” Phil. 2:15 18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out? 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief, for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 “However this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” 22 Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus Said to them, “the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men. Matt. 8:16 ◊23 “and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up. ” And they were exceedingly sorrowful. 24 When they had come to Capernaum, those who receive the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax? 25 He said, “Yes.” And when he has come into the house, Jesus anticipating him saying, “What do you think, Simon? From what do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?” 26 Peter said to Him, “from strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free. Matt. 21:43 27 “Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money, take that and give it to them for Me and you. Ex. 30:12-16
Matthew 16
1 Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that he would show a sign from heaven. Mark. 8:11-12 2 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; 3 “and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the time. 4 “A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. ” And He left them and departed. Matt. 12:39 5 Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. Mark. 8:14-21 6 Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. ” 7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have taken no bread. “ 8 But jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread? Matt. 8:26; Matt. 14:31 9 Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up?
